Balance account books of debtors and creditors of Messrs. James Buchanan (d.1758), John Hyndman, and Richard Lancaster (d.1774), merchants of London made up at July or March yearly, 1758-1763; 1764-1768; and 1769-1802 respectively.
After James Buchanan's death in 1758 his interest continued in favour of Jane Buchanan to 1767 and then due to Archibald Buchanan. From 1774 John Hyndman was the sole partner.

The following now held by the Univerity of Nottingham seems to indicate that James Buchanan had a son Archibald who died around 1772 and left his estates eventually to the descendants of his sister jane, wife of John Ridell:

Fourth Party: Rebecca Buchanan of Baker Street, parish of St Marylebone, Middlesex, spinster.

Attested copy lease [wanting] and release by (1) and (2) to (6) of messuage and lands at Hepewell alias Hepel alias Hepple, in the barony of the same and the parish of Rothbury, Northumberland, including West Hepple Farm and East Hepple Farm, and at Whitefield House in the same parish, and at Rimpside in the parish of Elsdon, as specified (tenants, field names and acreages given); upon the trusts of the will of Archibald Buchanan, viz. to the use of (3) for life, to  his male issue successively, thence to his daughters as tenants in common, with remainder  to (4) and her issue as specified, thence to the heirs and assigns of Jane Buchanan (widow of James Buchanan of London, merchant) for ever,  with charging and portioning powers etc. as specified.
Recites the will (1772) of Archibald Buchanan of Sundon, Bedfordshire, trusts created by it for the benefit of (4) and her sister, the mother of (3), and settlement of the estates on James Buchanan Riddell and (3), with name and arms
clause; other deeds involving Archibald Buchanan, the will of Jane Buchanan, a 1790 estate Act creating trusts for sale in the Sundon estate, etc.; and the 1737 trust deed of the Earl of Oxford [Pl F3/3/42], subsequent trust deeds, the 1782 estate Act [Pl F5/11/1], deeds down to the conveyance Pl E11/3/2/1, and                                                an application by (3) to the Court of Chancery.

Consideration: £ 18000 to (1) paid pursuant to an                                               order of the Court of Chancery.                                               Examined, 24 July 1804.
