Kay Meredith wrote of her in 2012:

I am heavily involved in my former school's alumni organisation.  In September 2012, we celebrate and commemorate a very special anniversary, the centenary of the death of its first headmistress,
one Miss Alice Ottley.  Of course, none of this has any relevance or
bearing on you personally.  However, I believe that one of your relations is a descendant of one of the school's (and therefore Miss Ottley's) "first brood".  The first brood were the first eleven pupils who were enrolled at the school's inception in June 1883.

The name of your relative (I believe) is Alexandra Susan Caroline Britten (maiden name) and she was the niece of Charles Britten and Dorothy Allsopp.  Dorothy Allsopp was the daughter of Lilian Maude Chesshire, who was one of the first brood.

Worcester Cathedral is hosting an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Alice Ottley, as a pioneer of education for girls in that melting pot of change that was the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.  However, Alice Ottley did not limit herself just to Worcester but had an influence that spread across England through her work and contributions to the Headmistresses' Association.  Her impact on the city of Worcester was significant too - on the day of her funeral in 1912, the shops closed and curtains were drawn as a mark of respect from the city to one of its most eminent Victorians.  Such was the esteem in which she was held that she has a stained glass window in the cloisters of the Cathderal, commemorating her
together with other eminent Victorians such as Queen Victoria herself and Dr Livingstone.

The Dean and Chapter have arranged for a private viewing for selected guests and I would like to be able to invite a relative of one of the first brood - it would seem fitting somehow.

I was able to find her marriage in 1977 to Thomas berington and an entry for her on 192.com so I hope contact was made and she made the memorial event.
