Notes for John Randall
Paul Willoughby reports that this John Randall was of the shipbuilding firm, Randall and Company. Randall and Co. was one of the largest shipbuilding firms of its day and was responsible for the construction of over a hundred ships for the Navy, as well as East and West India company and trade. John Randall Jr inherited the business when his father died around 1777/8.
His son John married Sarah Cruttenden on 6 Aug 1778 in Camden, Middlesex, and this was performed by Edward Powys, Rector of Stapleton. Sarah Cruttenden was the daughter of Edward Holden Cruttenden, who spent his earlier working years in the Bengal service and was later in the 1760s a Director of the East India Company.
