Very interestingly the 1861 Scots census has a different picture of him to that in Burke:
He was then 30 and the Lessee of Cramond Ironworks. It was hist sister in law, Matilda Elliott nee Inglis, that had married a Lt-Col.
The family were living at Cramond House, Cramond:
