From the Norfolk Chronicle of 21st March 1919:

DEATH OF COL.H. WOOD, C.B.

We regret to announce the death of Col. Henry Wood, C.B. who passed away at his residence, 71, Thorne-road, Norwich.  He was born on the 26th of March 1835 and was therefore nearly 84.  For the last three years he had been living in seclusion rendered neccessary by his final illness.  The son of Mr R.H.Wood, of Richmond, Surrey, he joined the Army in 1853.  He served in the Crimea with the 30th Regt in 1855 and with the Rifle Brigade on ther North West Frontier of India in 1862.  In 1878-9 he was with the 4th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade in the Afghan War, and in 1881 he was taking part in the expedition against the Madsud Wuzerees, when he was mentioned in despatches.  From 1887 to 1890 he was colonel commanding the 9th Regimental District, and was thus the first commanding officer at the Britannia Barracks, Norwich.  After the close of his military career he settled permanently in Norwich, and performed a good deal of useful service.  He served the chairmanship of the Board of Management of the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.  Three of his daughters were married to officers of the Norfolk Regiment--Mrs Close, widow of Major Close, Mrs Grisseld, widow of Colonel Bernard Grissell, D.S.O.; and Mrs Bridgwater, whose husband, Major Bridgewater, D.S.O. of Sheringham, is now serving in Egypt.
