‘He appears, in 1771, “Admiral K ... and Mrs W..lls” in the notorious tete-a-tete portraits in Town and Country Magazine, vol iii, p. 457.’
CP adds Appx B of vol XII:
Appendix B
“Tete-a-tete portraits” in the Town and Country Magazine
In earlier volumes frequent references have been made to a notorious series of “tete-a-tete portraits” of peers and their alleged mistresses, which ran from 1769 to 1790 in the Town and Country Magazine; and the reader has been referred to Appendix B in vol XII for further details. However as a reference has been duly given under the different peers concerned and a good account of the Portraits, with identifications of many of the person portrayed, was contributed to Notes and Queries by Horace Bleakley in 1905 (a), the Editor considers it unnecseeary to repeat the information here.
