Notes for Elizabeth Cromwell
She tried to claim the Cromwell barony went to heirs general but the patent was clearly to heirs male.
I only found her as a footnote to CP’s Ardglass article but this did not say if she married and had any significant children. The trouble was that the Ardglass earldom had expired and thus would not be in Burke. So I looked it up in Burke’s Extinct Peerages and was delighted to find some pointers which gave me leads to the relevant CP articles on Clifford, Sondes and Rockingham and which were supplemented by the latest Burke’s peerage on the De Clifford title. The point of all this, as I have not included it in any references for this line of descent (from the bastard pastor of Dunlop, Ayrshire) is to give a hearty thanks to Extinct Peerage!
