Notes for Major-Gen Sir Leopold Charles Louis Oldfield KBE, DSO
The Times’ Obituary had:

Major-General Sir Louis Oldfield, KBE, CB, CMG, DSO, who had a distinguished career as a gunner, died in hospital on Saturday at the age of 76, only one week after the death of his wife.
The son of Colonel F J Oldfield, Bombay Light Cavalry, he was educated at Clifton and entered the Army in 1892.  He gained his majority in 1909 and served throughout the 1914-18 war.  His promotion was then rapid and he made a name for himself as a brigadier-general with the 51st Highland Division, taking part in all its memorable battles in France.  He was twice wounded.  When the fighting was over he commanded a division of the Army of Occupation.  He was chief instructor in gunnery, School of Artillery, from 1924 to 1925.  Promoted major-general in 1926, he commanded the 47th (2nd London) Division, Territorial Army, from 1927 to 1930.  He was GOC, Malaya, from 1931 to 1934, when he retired.
Major-General Oldfield was ADC to the King in 1924 and Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery from 1938 to 1942.
