Notes for James Arthur Durbin Hamilton
In the censuses he was born in Beverstone, Glos, but his birth does not seem to be on FreeBMD.

By the time of his death, Ballymacoll had been lost as his father and his brother broke the entail or it was done with him.  His heir was his half cousin Henry de Courcy Hamilton.

Curiously there is only one Hamilt* born in England in Q3 of 1854; I wonder where the rest have got to.  (Did I not find they had been entered on FreeBMD as ‘Hamiltom’?)

In the 1881 census he was head of the household on a farm of 157 acres with 6 labourers in Godstone, Surrey:

I wonder where their parents were?
Answers: Their father was at his vicarage with their sister Emmeline and their mother was in lodgings in Holdenhurst, Hants.

_______________________

In 1901 he said he was a farmer and an employer: there were two servants again and no children.

In 1911 he was still at Godstone, his wife was reported never to have had any children and with them was their unmarried niece Geraldine, aged 27 and born in Dulwich, and a nurse, probably because he was about to die, which he did a month later.
