Notes for Agnes Goddard
On 5th Mar 2007 on soc.gen.med Ian Goddard produced a long analysis of the evidence that Agnes was, or was not, a Goddard. While he did not come to a conclusion he gave plausible reasons for supposing that Agnes may have come from a minor Goddard family and not that of Sir John who was a fairly prominent public figure, being both escheator and High Sheriff of York.
But on 9th March he had found more information and established that Sir John was in fact Agnes’ mother. This then led him back to his quest for Agnes’ mother; he concludes that this was not Constance Sutton who was Sir John’s later wife and that Agnes must have been the daughter of a currently unknown earlier wife.
