Notes for Elizabeth Hamilton
Burke says she was the dau. of Gavin Hamilton of Raploch. But Burke also says that her son m. Gavin Hamilton’s dau. Jean. Sounds doggy to me.
And on p. 178 of George Hamilton’s “House of Hamilton” he says”
“On 3 July 1559 he [Gavin son of James Hamilton and Isabel Weir] was party to the marriage contract of Elizabeth Hamilton his niece called “and” of the Commendator, apparently in error), sister of Mr James Hamilton of Neilsland, with William Mure of Glanderston.”
All is becoming cearer. Neilsland was the property of Gavin’s younger brother John who was fourth son to James Hamilton and Isabel Weir, see p. 611 of “The House”. So this indeed make Elizabeth into Gavin’s niece. So, on 19 Dec 2020 I mover her from bein dau. to Gavin to being dau. to John.
