Notes for Payn de Hemingford
K-R in DD says of Payn that
(1) “he was successor (probably son or grandson) of Ralph fitz Osmund”,
(2) “His successor in 1242/3 was Emma de legh, who held three fees in Hemmingford and Yelling from Earl Hugh de Vere”.
This is in contrast to VCH which makes the descent from Ralph de Osmund to Emma de Legh quite categoric.
