May I ask are you related to this Henry Trotter?.
Henry Trotter,Actg.Resident Councillor of Penang from(1891-1892/1894).Born 1837 in Cape Colony,South Africa.Son of Commissary-General Alexander Trotter Of Tidenham Chase,Gloucestershire and Jaqueline Elizabeth Otter.He became an private secretary to the Governor of Dominica in 1852.In 1859,he received a clerkship in the office of Commander-in-chief(Duke of Cambridge) at the House Guards.Later he appointed as Deputy Comptroller of the Convict Establishment in Bermuda.Next he was transfered to Ceylon as Inspector of Post Offices and later became Postmaster General.In 1871,he was appointed as Postmaster General of Straits Settlements.He became Auditor-General Of Straits Settlements in 1882.He married 1stly to Almeria Symonds,2ndly to Emma May Lewes Gordon and 3rdly to Helena Conduit Vale.He died in 1911,Alphington Court,Jersey Island.His issue:- i)Henry Blackall Noel Cortlandt Trotter. ii)Dorothy H C Trotter.

And a further photocopy of a printed page shows his career with the Civil Service, ending as Auditor-General of the Straits Settlements on a salary of $7,800, which was rated as a “Civil Service Class I” job. Possibly the original of this will be in either The National Archives or the India office archiaves at the British Library.

His son Noel Trotter also went into the Civil Service and fairly certainly also ended up in the Straits Settlements.

TFPL, Nov 2009: It now seems that the above has got hold of the wrong person, thanks to John Rees. Burke’s Landed gentry of 1914 and Who was Who both agree that this is the Henry concerned and this comes from Who was Who:
