There was a contract for marriage between him and Margaret, dau of Robert, 4th lord Erskine but never fulfilled. It is probably this that has led to the view that the marriage of his son, another Alexander, was to the daughter, Catherine, of the 4th lord Erskine, when in fact she was the daughter of the 5th lord.
