Aug 2010: Don McArthur has come up with a detailed pedigree of Thomas Forbes which shows that he was of Waterton, apparently in Aberdeenshire.  Thomas is given in Burke’s Landed gentry of 1847-9 in the article for Forbes of Tolquhon, with a named descent going back to the early 1400s; this refers to his estate as “Watterton”.
