Notes for William de St John
He is said to be the father of Robert St John who m. Elizabeth Courtenay but if William was the eldest son, why did this Robert not inherit? That he was the eldest son is evident from his death date in 1254 when his brother John in 1256 was not even then of marriagable age, so must have been younger (CP XI, 323, note (d).
