In “The Leeds and Liverpool Canal” by Mike Clarke, pub by Milepost Research in 2016, on p. 125 he quote a letter between two Aire and Calder proprietors about the Leeds and Liverpool Canal company and which says:
“They find their trade decreased so much at their end and think that the Union Company, the present carriers, manage so ill, that they have come to a resolution of commencing carrying themselves and I am to meet their principal agents Mr Priestley and Mr Peckover at Leeds on Wednesday to give them the best information I can for their books and business…”
Joseph Priestley we know about, of course, as the Superintendent of the Leeds & Liverpool, but this is the first mention of a Peckover and I wonder if it is not this Edmund Peckover who lived and died in Bradford?
