Curiously in SP vol 7, on his family, it says that his wife was unknown while in the Marischal article in SP Vol 6, it  says cleary that his wife was Mary, sister of Robert I.  In the Carrick article, SP Vol 2, it  states that Mary, sister of Robert I, married Alexander bruce, John’s father.
