His surname is various spelled Sempill (Scots Peerage), Sympill (also SP), and Semple (House of Hamilton)
He and Isabel had children:
1. Robert who had a son, who succeeded, and dvp.
2. Andrew m. Margaret, dau. of Geo Stirling of Craigbernard and they had issue,
3. James probably dsp,
4. John probably dsp,
5. Grisel, m. James Hamilton, 1st s. of James Hamilton of Raploch and lived a wild life,
6. Margaret, m. David Hamilton of Broomhill,
plus another 8 or so of uncertain parentage.
Some of his later children were with Elizabeth Carlile.
He was heavily involved politically, particularly in the troubles of Mary Q of Scots.
