Notes for Sir Michael Stanhope
The elder dau. Jane m. Henry Radcliffe, visct FitzWalter, heir to Robert Radcliffe, earl of Sussex.
CP, in both the Desmond and Berkeley articles say that he was of Sudbury, Suffolk. CE Wood has suggested that this is both wrong and that he was of Sudbourne, Suffolk where he had indeed erected a magnificent memorial to himself in the local church. There are reports that he acquired Sudbourne manor from Q Elizabeth but it is not yet clear that he had a caput there. More work is needed to establish quite where his principal residence was, if any. Currently I surmise that he was primarily a London man. Watch this space.
