_______________

I am unable to find any other record of Adrian’s birth or of the marriage of his parents Charles D and Alice Hope.

Later, I found that he is in the superb web-site of Darryl Roger Lundy at <www.thepeerage,com> and he says Adrian is descended from the family of Hope of Hopetoun as follows.  Noting that the Trotters already have ancestry from this family, it might be beneficial to follow this through.  Adrian’s ancestry is stated to be:

1. Parents:        Charles Douglas Hope (1867-1947) and Alice Wilmot, m. in 1896.
2. GrandParents:   Lt-Col William Hope VC (1834-1909) and Margaret Jane Cunninghame Graham, m. 29 Apr 1857.
3. G-Gparents:     John Hope (1794-1857) and Jessie Scott irvine, m. in Aug 1824.
4. GG-Gparents:    Charles Hope (law lord Granton) (1763-1851) and Charlotte Hope (a cousin) m. on 3 Aug 1793.
5. 3G-Gparents:    John Hope (1739-1785) and mary breton, m. on 2 June 1762
6. 4G-Gparents:    Charles Hope-Weir (1710-1791) and Catherine Weir, m. on 26 Jul 1733.
7. 5G-Gparents:    Charles Hope, earl of Hopetoun, (1681-1742) and Henrietta Johnstone, m. 31 Aug 1699.

Of the above No 7 is already in this database as a 2nd cousin eight times removed (phew, close!).
Nos 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 are in Burke’s Peerage for the Marquis of Linlithgow, vol 2, p. 2353.
No 1 and Adrian are in the same Burke’s Peerage on the following page, 2354 and include Adrian’s three children and four of Adrian’s grandchildren.

While this is valid data, the common ancestor to the surviving P-Ls is in the early 17th century, which is really a bit tenuous, so I will not add this lineage to this database - or at least not currently.
