Notes for Louise Hamilton
Arbuthnot papers: "The fair flower of Clydesdale".
Don McArthur is not sure of her mother:
If Louise was m. in 1704 and went on having children until 1724 (Henry), she must have been below 45 in 1724 and thus no more than 25 in 1704. So she could have been anything between 16 and 24 in 1704, giving her birth as between 1680 and 1688.
Don has found a record to indicate that Louise’s supposed parents, Robert Ramilton and Elizabeth Cochrane, had two children baptised in 1696 and there is no record of their marriage or any earlier baptisms. Further Eliz Cochrane’s parents are reported to have been married in 1685. He concludes that Robert Hamilton had an earlier marriage and that Louise was the daughter of that marriage. It sounds as if a few facts are needed!

Darryl Coup has found records that she was born in 1686 and died in 1750.

Georeg Hamilton in his “The House of Hamilton” says specifically that her parents married on 24 Feb 1680. This should remove the misgivings about her parentage.
