Notes for Joan d' Auberville
Sanders says that her family was connected to the fitzHeltos of Aldington, Kent and suggest that this was how her son Nicholas came to possess one third of the Aldington barony in 1279. This third was almost certainly the third held by the Ceritons who inherited it by marrying Sibyl filia Helto.
See Sanders, p.1, DP p. 390.
If her mother had been a Ceriton that would account for the inheritance.
