Notes for Edith Basset CBE
At marriage her name is given on FreeBMD as ‘Edith Basset Basset’ but, while this is on the raw index, it may yet be a clerical error. (See Burke: it is half right.)
No death record on FreeBMD up to 1930. She was at her daughter’s wedding to earl Howe in 1927 and at her husband’s funeral in 1938.
There are 8 Edith Bassett births between 1840 and 1864; I cannot identify which might have been hers. Perhaps the 1901 census would help?
Though the 1881 census has led to Edith’s birth record on FreeBMD.
Burke says they had a 1st daughter Nina Eleonora, b. 18 Jul 1883, d. 17 May 1886.

Burke for the Williams baronetcy (her father’s family) says she got her CBE in 1918.

This looks like her entry for the 1911 census, though with one or two oddities:
(a) She wrote that she was a visitor, but this was crossed out and ‘Head’ written in.
(b) She gave her address as 15 St Andrew’s Mansions, Dorset St, W but the transcription stops after ‘Man’.
But she did write that she had had 3 children of whom two were alive in 1911, same as her son entered down in Devon.
