Notes for John St John
Sonia St John writes that there is a known descent of this John St John from the Port family. A starter for this is an article by J H Round “The St John and Port Families” in the Genealogist New Series, Vol 16, part 1 (July 1899) pp, 1 - 13; but as yet (Aug 2006) I can’t quite make the connection.
TFPL, July 2007: I have just obtained Brian Carne’s excellent work on the St John family and while he thinks there may be a connection between these St Johns and those of Basing he says: ‘This part of the St John Story is full of conjectures and is likely to remain so’ - “Curiously Painted”, pub by The Friends of Lydiard Park, 2007.
