Notes for Richard Pigot
The Pigot Roll of 1598 agrees with the Yorks 1563-4 Visitation about his parents, Geoffrey P. and Margaret Sowerby, but they two sources diverge before that, getting generations and wives respectively confused. Heaven knows which is right!

Feb 2006, TFPL: Matt Tomkins, who has been researching the village of Great Horwood, has come to the conclusion that this Richard Pigot did not come from Yorkshire at all but was the son of some local yeomen whose holdings were on the manor rolls of Little Norwood. He reckons that this Pigot family can be traced back at least 100 years before Richard through surviving local record of the Horwoods. Watch this space as the information unfolds from his research!
Later: I have seen some of Matt’s research and fully agree with him. Further we can trace some of the mal-ancestry to a statement of Leland’s about a totally separate Pigot Serjeant-at-law who very probably did come from the North. This was used either innocently or not to give a false ancestry on the Pigot Roll.
