Notes for Frances Fortescue
It is possible that she was not dsp. It has been suggested that she m. (2) George Raleigh of Thornborough and had a daughter Bridget who m. Wm Kingsmill. The only evidence found so far for this is in the Warks visitation of 1819, pub Harl 1877, where is says merely that George Ralei m. (2) “widow of Fitz Gerrard”. George Raleigh had 9 other children between his two other wives.
If this second marriage of hers happened it must have been between 1537, when FitzGerald died, and 1539 a year before her death in 1540. (Sounds like c.1538.)
The Wentworth article in CP is the source of the information of her death and of the assertion that she dsp. The above, if verified, would lead to a Correction to CP.
