Debrett report him as of Upper Ward, Bonchurch, Isle of Wight.
In 1881 there was a 14 year old Horace P Lane, born in India and boarding at Cheltenham College.
June 2002: As yet it is not certain that he was the son of Horatio Powys Lane, though the coincidences of India and the name similarity make this highly likely. Researches are in progress to establish some more details; hopefully they will confirm the supposition of his parents and give his wife.
July 2002: His relationship has been confirmed both by his baptism record and by his application for a Queen's Cadetship.
