Notes for Robert I de Stuteville
Possibly m. Beatrix.
From Rosie Bevan (s.g.m, 1.9.2002 and 7.9.2002) he was from Etoutteville, Seine-Maritime, France. He was given the lands forfeited by Hugh fitz Baldric in Yorks & Lincs. Rosie Bevan's quoted sources are Keats-Rohan's "Domesday Descendats", Clay's "Early Yorkshire Charters" Vol 8, and Sanders' "English Baronies: a study of their origin and descent: 1086-1327"; it is only first of these three that I possess (in Sept 2002).
We are descended from him by six lines of Stutevilles, each (inevitably) ending in a Stuteville daughter who married some other family.
In 1106 after the battle of Tinchebrai, the Cottingham barony was lost to Nigel d'Albini, to be recovered by his grandson Robert III in the reign of Stephen.
