Notes for Richard Harcourt
The genealogy from this chap onwards is to be found identically both in Burke's Extinct Peerage and in Faris' Plantagenet Ancestry and, with some tangential correlations, Complete Peerage. This is a remarkable achievement for Burke!
The issue then is the viability of Burke's account of his ancestors through the seven generations that connect to the well documented Robert de Harcourt (d. 1202) of Staunton Harcourt, Oxon whose daughter Alice married Waleran de Newburgh earl of Warwick. I have inserted Burke's account and presume that it is not far wrong.
According to the 1614-1664 Staffs vis’n he also m. Eleanor Lewknor and their descendants lived in Ranton, Staffs.
