Notes for Capt Robert Alfred Plassey Hallifax
He was originally found in the 1861 census; in 1851 he would have been one year old and probably still in the East Indies with his parents.  I have seen no other record of him.

In the 1861 census he was aged 11 and with his mother and siblings at Portsea, Hants; he was born in the East Indies.

In 1871 there was a Robert Hallifax born in Lincoln and an Engine fitter at Works(?) in Sheffield; I don’t think this is him.  Though I wonder if this engine fitter is descended from the Hallifaxes of Springthorpe, Lincs?

I cannot find his death on FreeBMD for up to 1910.  But Jane Nantais’ cousin, and thus also a distant cousin also of mine, managed to find this:

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Deaths Mar 1905
Hallifax Robert A P 35 Bedford 3b 206

which looks like him but the age is quite wrong.  But second thoughts make me ask if it is not the engine fitter above.

However the death entry on FindMyPast does have the right age:

Name: HALLIFAX, Robert A P
Registration district:
[?] Bedford
County: Bedfordshire
Year of registration: 1905
Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death:55
Volume no: 3B
Page no: 206

I have sent a correction in to FreeBMD as theirs is an obvious mistranscription from the scanned index sheet.

TFPL, Nov 2013: On the Hallifax pedigree that Diana Pethick found among her mother’s papers, he and Edith are shown to have another son Frederick P Hallifax who married Rani G, daughter of James Shirley Gosse and a pencil addition shows that they had a daughter Chloe L Mary Hallifax.  H and his brother were in the 1911 census at Windsor at school.
