Notes for Anne Cobham Baroness Cobham
In CP V, p. 484 note (d) it quotes the IPM for Thomas Cobham:
"Et quod praedictus Thomas Cobham miles ... obiit xxvj die Aprilis anno Regis supradicti undeximo. Et quod Anna Cobham est filia et heres predicti Thome Cobham militis jam defuncti ... et quod eadem Anna est etatis quatuor annorum et amplius."
In other words, Anne was 4 years old in 1471/2 and must therefore have been born around 1467/8. But CP says, Vol II, pp 422-3, corrected by CP XIV p. 124, that Anne's mother was Elizabeth Chidiock, similarly CP V, p. 337. Further CP says, Vol V, p. 484 that Elizabeth Chidiock died on 14 June 1464; this death date is confirmed in CP XIV, p. 197. So Anne cannot have been Elizabeth Chidiock's daughter, yet she was a legitimate daughter of Thos Cobham. So Thos Cobham must have m.(2) Anne Stafford, who m. Aubrey Vere, and to whom he refers in his will so eloquently and this Ann Vere was the mother of Anne Cobham. QED.
Apparnetly, from his will, as a child she, Anne, was the ward of Sir Walter Blount, lord Montjoy; see Testamenta Vetusta, p. 336. She was then married when she was 8 and he was 11 to Walter Blount's grandson and heir, Edward; but Edward died within six months so the marriage was hardly real - CP V, p. 337.
