CP: The heir to the Vescy estates after his death was (Vol XII/2, p. 285, note (b) ):
"... the heir gen. of William, 1st Lord Vescy, was found in 1315 to be Gilbert de Aton, of West Ayton, co. York, s. and h. of William, br. and h. of Gilbert, s. and h. of William, s. and h. of Gilbert de Aton, by Margery, da. and h. of Warin de Vescy, yr. br. of Eustace, grandfather of said William, 1st Lord. This Gilbert, who established his claim to the estates in 1316 and 1317, was father of William de Aton, who was sum. to Parl. on 8 Jan. (1370/1) 44 Edw III, by writ directed Willelmo de Aton, whereby he is held to have become Lord Aton."
