Notes for Walter Blount
1st wife not given in CP Vol II and in Vol IX in the Mountjoy article CP is not even sure she existed.  However the Worcs vis'n, with no evidence cited, says he m. (1) Elinor Beachamp of Hatch, though CP suggests an Isabel, mother of this William, might have been the said Beauchamp, though of Elmley Castle.  (I don't believe any of the visitation genealogy here!)

I hadn't noticed this before: the Blounts of Elmley Lovet, Worcs. (Sir
Walter Blount, etc.) are said to be descended from Isabel, daughter of
Wm de Beauchamp & Isabel Mauduit, above.  This makes Sir Walter Blount a
third cousin (once removed) of Blanche of Lancaster, which might explain
his close Lancastrian tie (he was one of John of Gaunt's executors, and
died at Shrewsbury while wearing Henry IV's livery).

1. William de Beauchamp, d. 1269 = Isabel Mauduit
2. Isabel de Beauchamp, widow of Henry Lovet  =  William le Blount
3. Sir Walter le Blount (d. 1324), M.P. Worcester, 1318, 1321  = Joan de
Sodington
4. Sir John le Blount (d. 1358) =  Isolde de Mountjoy
5. Sir Walter Blount (1348-1403) = Sancha de Ayala

CP notes the identity of Isabel, wife of William le Blount as only a
possibility, but I thought I remembered Croke giving fairly convincing
presentation of this.  It might be nice to review that particular
question.

Given that Henry VI addressed another descendant of Mauduit / Beauchamp
as cousin (apparently based on no closer relationship than this), I
wonder if any similar expression of kinship by Henry IV, V or VI to
Blounts or to Walter, 1st Lord Mountjoy (who would be related in the
same degree) could be found to support this descent?
