His father was, apparently, Conrad of Montferrat, also king of Jerusalem but de jure uxor, Isabella, his mother and dau of Almaric I, king of Jerusalem, who was son of Fulk, the father of Geoff Platagenet of Anjou.

TFPL, Jul 2006: Moor in his ‘Knts of Ed I’ says John de B.’s father was Erard II, Count of Brienne and that John m. (1) Marie de Montferrat, Queen of Jerusalem, thus becoming king there and Emperor of Constantinople, and (2) Berenggaria of Castile.

Leo van de Pas agrees with this parentage and marriages so I’ll go for it and ignore the above first paragraph - a brownie point for Rev Moor!  However Leo adds in a third marriage between Maria de Montfarrat and Berengaria de Castile, to Stephanie (or Isabella) of Armenia; they had a son Jean who d. young..

By his first marriage he had a dau. Isabella II, queen of Jerusalem who m. Friedrich II, Holy Roman Emperor.

By his third marriage, to Berengaria, they had:
Alphonse, count of Eu, de jure uxor, but line folded after three more generations.
Jean, whose dau. Blanche m. William de Fiennes, Seigneur de Fiennes, w/issue
Louis whose s. Henry m. the countess of Buchan, w/issue
Marie, wife of Baldwin de Courtenay, Emperor of Constantinople, w/issue.
