Notes for Raynes Waite
According to the will of Raynes’ nephew Henry Waite, he, Raynes, had two grandsons who lived in Jamaica, Thomas and Henry.
Henry’s will of July 1738 includes these words listing relations, bearing in mind that he was Raynes Waite’s nephew (the pagination is from the photocopies of the entries of his will in the PCC records now held at The National Archives, Kew):
(p.1) “I Henry Waite late of Grays Inn Esq Son and heir of Sir Nich: Waite of Chertsey Abbey in the County of Surrey kt”
(p.2) “I give devise and bequeath to my Cos’n Capt Jno Waite son of Charles Waite attorney at law (premises on Fleet Street)
(p.2) “... in Fleet Str where my late uncle Maurice Waite dyed...”
(p.2) “my cozen Waite Diboll ... (land in Bow Lane, London)
(p.3) “my cousin Elizabeth Maunder wife of the Reverend harry Maunder...”
(p.3) “my cousin Judith Chandler”
(p.4) “my Cos’n Maurice Waite now living in Cambridge”
(p.4) “I give to my cos’n Thomas and Henry Waite now living in Jamaica grandchildren of my late uncle Reins Waite two hundred pounds each...”
(p.4) “”I give to my cozen[s?] Ricketts now living in Jamaica a Ring of 20li each and to their son John Ricketts Surgeon if living in London at the time of my decease.”
(p.4) “I give also to my Cosen Henry Maunder and his wife Eliz: Maundre and to my cozen [now p.45] Judith Chandler ten pounds apiece”
(p.5) “I give to my coz’n Capt Jno Waite my large silver tankard with the family arms thereon and my uncle Maurice Waites and my coz’n Henry Fawkners pictures”
(p.5) ”I give to William East Esq my three Spanish pictures at length and my six large Spanish pictures left me by my uncle Henry Waite of Hamstead and now in the Possession of Capt Thomas Noorwood”
So all the above are relations of Raynes Waite.
