Notes for Sir Thomas Wiseman
Burke says that he was descended from Anne, Duchess of Exeter, "through the noble families of Rutland and Essex".  But the only Sir Thos Wiseman in Ruvigny's Plantagenet Roll, Exeter volume, did not marry until 1757 so his daughter could hardly have given birth to her third son in 1753.  So we will have to save this story for the bin!

The Suffolk visitation of 1664-8 includes a Hester, dau of Sir Thos Wyseman of Rivenhall, Essex, probably alive in 1664. (p. 138 of Harleian edition of 1910)

The Norfolk visitation of 1664, p. 56, includes a Penelope, dau of John Wyseman of Tirrills hall in Essex.  Her will (PCC, Box 40) was proved 28 March 1694.  She m. Thomas Cornwallis of Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk.

The Essex visitation of 1634 has a Thomas Wiseman of Canfield Hall (not a knight) whose third son William became a baronet in 1628.  See Cokayne’s Baronetage, p. 51 of volume II.

The Essex vis’n of 1664 has two Sir Thos Wysemans of Rivenhall, father and son.  The second T. had a son Sir William, bt also of Rivenhall who signed the visitation entry.
