To the Memory
ever precious, revered and most beloved of
Sir John Simeon, Bart, M.P.
of Swainston and St John's in this Island
which he represented in Parliament
from 1847 to 1851 and from 1865 till his death
Born at St John's Feby 9th 1815
Married first Jane Mary daughter of
Sir Richd Baker Bart, and secondly
Catherine Dorothea, daughter of
Genl the Honble Sir Charles Colville G.C.B.
and sister of Chas Jahn, 10th Baron Colville of Culross.
Died at Fribourg in Switzerland May 21st 1870
after a few hours illness.
On the 31st May he was laid beneath this chapel
amid the laments and tears of hundreds present
above all of his own, whose life
is evermore shadowed by his loss :
and mourned not only throughout the Island
which he had loved and served so faithfully
but wherever his name is held
in affectionate and lasting remembrance.
