Blazon source notes for Henry III
“Catalogue of Seals” by W de G Birch pub by the British Museum in 1887, vol I, p. 16.
In 1259 Henry had renouced the duchy of Normandy and the comté of Anjou so the tenor of his seal had to be changed. But not the arms.
Of his three Great Seals, the third, of 1859, has the lions as couchant regardant, but it is not known whether this was merely articistic or a heraldic change. This change was not followed by subsequent sovereigns.
