Notes for Rev James Vaughan
I wonder if this notice in the London Gazette is for a son?
28 May 1872: “60th Foot, Arthur Powys Vaughan, Gent., to be Sub-Lieutenant, in succession to Lieutenant A. V.' O'Brien, promoted. Dated 29th May, 1872.”
2012, TFPL: I have at least found the family in the 1851 census and Arthur P Vaughan was indeed a son of James and Emily.
His death from Burke’s peerage of 1914 was 1888.

Foster’s Alumni Oxoniensis for 1715-1886, vol 4, p. 1465 has this record for him:

One of the following looks like his death, from a search for all born in 1806 who died between 1881, his last census and 1900:
Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Deaths Jun 1881 (>99%)
Vaughan James 75 Bethnal Green 1c 139
Deaths Jun 1889 (>99%)

Deaths Sep 1889 (>99%)
VAUGHAN James 84 Ross 6a 249
Deaths Mar 1891 (>99%)

The Guildford death both agrees for date with Burke and is the same place where his wife was living three years after his death and died eighteen years later. Their death certificates could be obtained to confirm all this.
