There are reports that he changed his name to de Winton around 1839.  But why was his death registered as Wilkins?

He may also have been a director of the Brecon Old Bank of Messrs Wilkins & Co.

Burke’s Landed Gents of 1862 reports on the house of de Winton of Maesderwen and says

“Mr De Winton  was born 21 July 1778  ...  m. 3rdly, 5 March 1828, Harriet, 3rd Dau. of the late Rev Edward Powys of Westwood, Staffordshire and has a dau.

“1. Emily Catherine Powys, m. 1858, to Joseph Richard Cobb esq.”

Burke includes that their name was formerly Wilkins and was changed by Royal Licence in 1839.
