________________________________________________________

FreeBMD has a Wm Powys who d. in Cheadle in Q4 of 1851.  This might be he, but it needs a bit of evidence.

In the 1851 census he was visiting his recently widowed brother Thomas in Cheddleton, Staffs.  This census (see Thomas’ Notes) confirms the above birth information.

No will can be found for him at PCC held by TNA, and no other depository found either.

No marriage and no will found.  The 1851 census says he was then single.

There is something odd about him: when his brother Charles died, he left his brother equal shares of his modest estate.  But for William he allowed the executors to pay William the interest on the share half-yearly instead of giving him the whole sum.  I suspect this was because William could not handle money sensibly: he may have been simple or just irresponsible.
