In 1851 she and her sister Constance were at school in St Peter’s Broadstairs, Isle of Thanet, Kent, both born in London, Mx.

In 1891 she was with her half-sister Edith Jacobson, née Powys.

In 1901 a Gertrude M Powys was living with Mary Hoar, a widow who was her aunt, at 14 Ashford Rd, Maidstone, Kent. Gertrude is down as a companion to Mrs Hoar and was aged 60 and born in Bloomsbury, London.  Who was Mary Hoar???  Sounds like the sister (or sister-in-law as she was a widow?) of her mother Eleanor Hoar(e), and Mary's father Charles Hoare had himself lived at Maidstone.  Mary Hoar was on the 1841 census in Bransby’s house, probably looking after her two young and half-orphaned nieces.

There was a ‘female Powys’ born in the Bradfield district in 1840, but this is more likely to be a dau. of Henry Philip and Philippa Shawe, viz Emma Charlotte.  Otherwise her birth is not found on FreeBMD.  Later in 2020: The birth was for a child of Henry Philip and Philippa as the mother’s maiden name is Shawe on the new GRO birth index.

In 1911, she was still living with a Hoar, though now it was a Clarissa at 351 Loose Road, Maidstone, Kent; she was 70.
