If her heir was her nephew a Hugh Peverel (DP says that Maud had three Peverel nephews, Richard, Hugh and Ranulf), that might mean that Hugh was the son of a brother of hers. If that is the case, then why wash;t Hugh the heir of Maud’s brother William?
Anyhow DP implies that the whole family died out as the lordship of Hatfield Peveril had been resumed by the crown by 1129/30.
Aha! The DD, p. 1066, article on Hugh suggest that he was the son of an illegitimate son of Ranulf Peverel, hence that he was not Maud’s heir.
