TFPL, Sep 2007: Until now I had no source entered for this chappie, but I have now found Burke’s Peerage of 1849, and the Stirnet site, which says that he was not ‘John James’ but just plain ‘John’. More seriously, they also record he had a son John and it was he who had the daughter Lilias who m. Alexander Trotter. So I had a generation completely missing. I will be very interested to see whether Cokayne confirms this in the soon-to-be-received ‘Complete Baronetage’. Meanwhile I have altered the genealogy to what seems correct.
Later in Sep: CB est arrivé. And it confirms that there were four Sir Johns in succession, the last (ever) being John James.
One of these Johns, from the date this Sir John, was a witness at the baptism in 1713 of John Trotter, son of Alexander Trotter and jean Stewart, as shown on the original baptism register page.
