Notes for James Hamilton
He is said to have had 36 children by his three marriages, though many d. young. The Hamilton Manuscripts has the largest number actually reported and these are 12 in the first marriage, 5 in the second and none in the third, a total of 17. For many of these the information given is little more than their names, no dates.

Arms: Gules a mullet argent between three cinquefoils pierced ermins, on a chiel Or a heart of the first
Crest: A demi antelope argent srmed and unguled or, charged with a mullet hules holding between the hoofs a heart as in the Arms.
Motto: Qualis ab Incepto.

Burke's Armory, p. 449:
Hamilton (Sheephill, now Abbotstown, co. Dublin; descended from James Hamilton, esq, of Sheephill, second son of James Hamiltion esq, MP for Carlow. Same Arms, etc, as the last, the mullet charged with a crescent for diff.
The last was Hamilton (Baillieborough. co. Cavan, Carlow and Summer Hill, Dublin; descended from James Hamilton Esq of Baillieborough, second son of John Hamiltons Esq of Coronorary. Same Arms, etc, as Killyleagh, with a mullet for difference.
And Killyleagh was: Gules three cinquefoils pierced ermine on a chief or, a human heart of the field. Crest, same as the Earl of Clanbrassil.
Earl of Clanbrassil's crest: A demi antelope argent armed or, supporting a heart proper.
