Notes for Anne Fitzwilliam
In the Essex 1558 Visitation for Cooke, p. 39, Anne is given as:
"Anne da. to William FitzWilliam widow to Sr John hawes of London kt".
This visitaiton record includes much info from after 1558, so it is unknown who provided it all.

In the 1612 Essex visitation of 1612, for FitzWilliam p, 199, it says that there was an Ann, dau. to Ann, dau of John Hawes, and Sir Wm. FitzWilliams of Gaines park, essex, that married Air Anthony Cooke of Giddy hall in Essex.  This Ann would have been the gt-gt-aunt of the almsot certain provider of the information.  But if she had been as the 1558 visitation, she would ahve been the aunt and therefore in the orbit of those that the provider would have known personally and thus got right.

So far it looks as if the second is more likely true.

The DNB entry merely says of Anthony Cooke that he: "married Anne, daughter of Sir William Fitzwilliam of Milton, Northamptonshire, and Gains Park, Essex".

The DNB entry for either of Anne's two fathers give no identification.
m. (1) Sr John Hawes, (2) Sir Anthony Cooke.

CP, in the Burghley article, vol II, p. 429, says of Wm Cecil:
"He m., 2ndly, 21 Dec 1545 ... Mildred, 1st da. of Sir Anthony Cooke, of Gidea Hall, in Romford Essex, by Anne, da. of Sir William FitzWiulliam of Milton, Northants."

The Northants Visitaiton has nothing for any FitzWiliiams of Milton.

The Yorks Visitation of 1563-4 for FitzWilliam on p. 127 has Anne m. to Sir Antony Cooke of Guydy Hall, Essex and daul of Ann Hawes and Sir William FitzWilliam.

Beavington's list of Aldermen states that she was elder dau. and m. Sir Anthony Cooke.

From all the above, I think it far more likely that Anne was the dau of William FitzWilliam and Ann Hawes.  So she has been changed from having Anne Sidney as her mother, losing a shedload of interesting ancestors in the process!

(I wonder where I got it fromt hat she was dau of Anne Sidney?)
