Will notes for William Saunders
Abstract of the will of WILLIAM SAUNDER of Ewell, co Surrey, Esquire, PCC 42 Holney, dated 2 oct 1570, proved 10 Nov 1571:

My body to be biried in the Chappel nigh my tomb within the parish Church of Eewll aforesaid.
To the parish church of Ewell 6/8. and for my tithes negligently forgotten 1/-.
To the poor of the parishes of Ewell and Elsham 20/- each.
To the poor of the parish of Clif in Kent 20/-.
To each of my god-children 1/-.
To my wife all her apparel and Jewels and one half of my kine and hoggs at Ewell etc. etc. and the one half of all my bedding and household stuff at Clif co Kent.
To my son ERASMUS SAUNDER my gold cross with a pearl and my best doublet and £100 and to JOHENNET his wife two old angells.
To FRANCIS SAUNDER my son my gold (watch) with a murrions face with a cross of mother of pearl etc. etc. and all the hangings in the chamber called Mr SEYNT JOHN's Chamber and the elase which I have of my Ladies grace of Somerset in Ashested
I forgive my daughter LUSSHER the money that her late husband owed me as well as the money I have paid for her in opbtaining the warship of NICHOLAS LUSSHER her sone etc.
To each of her daughters viz JANE, ELIZABETH, MARY & MARGARET LUSSHER £10 at the day of marriage.
To my daughters FRANCES SPILMAN, ELIZABETH CASTELL a ring.
To my duaghters URITHE PAYGRAVE, KATHERIN CARVELL ----------
To OLIVER GITTONS my goune etc.
To THOMAS BROMLEY my best coat etc
To each of my servants mena dn women 40d.
The residue of all my goods my debts and legacies paid I give to NICHOLAS SAUNDER & I desire my sdaid son NICHOLAS to keep house at Ewell for my wife for 1/4 of a year after my decease.
I desire that EDWARD GRIFFIN & his wife and RICHARD STEPHEN shoudl occupy their several farms for one year after my decease rent free.
In case that my goods unbequeathed, callets and loom with debts owing to me will not amount tot he performance of this will, then I will the first crop of felling of all my coppies woods now standing in Varnet Wood, Bedwelll Lynnets Grove Bettis Hill or in any other coppies wood pertaining unto the manor of Chesington late parcel of the dissolved monastery of Marten Abbey and if that should not be sufficient then I will that the yearly revenues issues rents and profits other than are granted out of the manor of Parroke and the iron Mill there.
I desire that JOHANE my wife shall have in full satisfaction of her jointure besides the manor of Cardenes with its appurtenances in Clyf Higham and Frindisburie which late was parcel of the late dissolved Charterhosue in London, all my lands tenements rents, woods etc. which I bought of Sir OLIVER LEDDER Knight and DAVID GITTONS citizen and vintner of London situate in the parish of Clif Coling Higham and Frindisburie aforesaid co. Kent during her natural life and after her decease to NICHOLAS SAUNDERR my eldest son and his heirs male and default in tale male to my sons ERASMUS SAUNDER & FRANCIS SAUNDER and for default to the right heirs of me the said WILLIAM SAUNDER for ever.
The lands that I bought of JOHN POTTES, NICHOLAS ORWELL gentleman and ----- GOLDCOCK in Suthwoode in the parish of Clif aforesaid to remain to my son FRANCIS SAUNDER and his heirs for ever - the marsh I bought of NICHOLAS ORWELL gentleman called Hirsinge marsh in Clif I give to my sons ERASMUS and FRANCIS as by letter patent appear.
To my sons FRANCIS  SAUNDER and his heirs an annual rent of £5 a year which I bought of GEORGE LUSSHER & WILLIAM LUSSHER his sone going out of NICHOLAS LUSSHER's lands in Puttenham co. Surrey and for default to NICHOLAS LUSSHER my godson and his heires for ever.
All my manor lands which I had of my godfather [this has to be his father...] HARRY SAUNDER situate in the parish of Ewell, Elsham, Chesington, St. Saviours Soutwark Surrey, Blechingleigh, Nutfield Charlewode, Horley Newdfigate and Ocjelye in the co. Surrey shall remain according to the last will of my said late father HARRY SAUNDER (? above meant for goodfather. O. L.)
