In RCLPL's tree.
In The Scots Peerage but as marrying Margaret Stewart, dau of Lennox. Sounds more like it was as recorded in same volume for Lennox, as marrying Elizabeth. But I have seen a suggestion that he married a totally separate Margaret Stewart first then Elizabeth, dau of Lennox. This would account for the deed, referred to in the Scots Peerage, in which his wife is named as Margaret.
In Douglas' Scots Peerage, he married Elizabeth Stewart, 2nd dau of Matthew Stewart, Earl of Lennox and has 2 children, Matthew and Marion who married Sir James Carmichael of Hyndford.
Burke's extinct Peerage follows Douglas.
In James Paterson's History of the County of Ayr, 1852, published in Paisley, it records that "By his first wife, Lady Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of the Earl of Lennox, he had issue:
"1. Mathew, his successor
"2. Marion, married to Sir James Carmichael of Hyndford.
"By his second wife, Agnes Drummond, he had no issue."

However the lack of authoritative documentation of his children, particularly the lack of Marion in The Scots Peerage, has led me to question merion’s parentage the more. I asked Diane baptie is she could account for marion and she could fin nothing in the surviving records around Edinburgh. So Marion has been removed as Hugh and Elizabeth’s daughter.
