Notes for General George Michell
Palmer's Index to The Times has this entry on:
29 Dec 1846: DEATHS Michell, Gen George, p. 5, col. b.
The article reads:
DEATH OF GENERAL GEORGE MICHELL--On Saturday accounts were received of the death at Fisherton Anger, near Salisbury, of General George Michell, at a very advanced age, for had he lived a few days longer he would have completed the 89th year of his age. He died on Tuesday [22 Dec 1846] afternoon, at 3 o’clock, after a short illness. The gallant deceased was known to every person residing at Salisbury and its vicienity, from the singularity of his habits, and many tales are told of his eccentricities. He repeatedly called in the poorest of his neighbours to share the hospitalities of his table, and his benevolence to the indigent was most bountiful. The venerable General entered the army as far back as February 1776, nearly 70 years ago.

There are too many George Michells in FreeBMD to identify his death securely, though this is possible:
George Michell, d. Q3 of 1848, Tavistock district, vol 9, p. 295
However neither the date nor the area are what have been heard of previously.

“He was second Son of John Michell of Bagfield Hall in the County of Norfolk, Esq.
